Hideous, outlandish, polarizing, futuristic, game changing, amazing… all words used to accurately describe Tesla’s new Cybertruck. Matthew Johnson and I were fortunate to get an invitation to attend the unveiling on November 21, 2019 at the Tesla Design Studio in Hawthorne, CA. Here’s a recap of the experience:
We lined up with about 1,000 other invitees to get our passes into the event around 5:00 PM. Once we past through security and lanyards secured around our necks, we spent the next hour or so checking out the event space, which included a Nikola Tesla coil show, complete with large and loud electric arcs discharging, They also had cars/props from back to the future, James Bond and blade runner movie sets. The best part, however, was meeting many popular YouTubers and Podcasters, including Kim from LikeTeslaKim, Ride the Lightening’s Ryan Mccaffrey, DragTime’s Brook Weisblat and Seth Weintraub from Electrek.
Once the doors opened to the design center at 7:00 PM, we immediately gathered around the stage, which was literally glowing with light from many laser beams at full power. This was a rock concert in all it’s glory. Soon, the lights went down and a holograph of a cyber-woman spoke to the crowd about the future and then introduced Elon, who promptly came on stage to do the unveiling. I’m not going to go into details on the actual unveiling, since most everybody has already seen and read about it.
We met with members of the design team, including Chief Designer Franz Von Holzhausen and learned about things we didn’t know before. After getting up close several times with the truck and seeing it in action, our views promptly changed from shock to gotta have it! We are now proud pre-order holders, along with over 250,000 other people.
Tesla has started to recognize the clubs on a more formal basis and help support them. Getting an invite to the unveiling event was one way Tesla is showing support. Hope you enjoy the pics from the event.
